Causes of FX rate fluctuations-外匯匯率波動(dòng)的原因

High rates of inflation in a foreign country weaken its exchange rate.

The exchange rate between two currencies – ie the buying and selling rates, both spot and forward – is determined primarily by supply and demand in the foreign exchange markets. Demand comes from individuals, firms and governments who want to buy a currency.

Supply comes from those who want to sell it.

Factors influencing the exchange rate include the comparative rates of inflation in different countries (purchasing power parity), comparative interest rates in different countries (interest rate parity), the underlying balance of payments, speculation and government policy on managing or fixing exchange rates.
