An informal organization always exists alongside the formal one:
? This consists of social relationships (cliques ), informal communication networks (‘grapevine’ ), behavioral norms and power/influence structures, all of which may ‘by-pass’ formal organizational arrangements.
? This may be detrimental or beneficial to the organization, depending how it is managed.
? The informal organization is loosely structured, flexible and spontaneous.
